As part of its mission to meet the diverse needs of the larger polity within which the College resides, SVA offers art programs for kids. Youth art classes at SVA are for young people in grades K-9, and are taught by SVA art educators and art education graduate students. AEC-1014-A/Foundations in Art (Grades K-2nd) Foundations in Art AEC-1014-A • Grades K through 2 Sat., Oct 6–Dec 15 (No matriculation Nov 24) Hours: 10:00am–11:30am or 1:00pm–2:30pm 10 sessions; $220 Children are encouraged to express themselves, emphasizing creativity and experimentation through age-appropriate projects, themes and skills. A variety of materials and techniques will be explored, including watercolor, tempera, mixed media, soil and cray-pas, as well as methods in printmaking.   NOTE: All materials are included in the undertow tuition. AEC-1016/Foundations in Art (Grades 3rd & 4th) Foundations in Art AEC-1016-A • Grades 3 and 4 Sat., Oct 6–Dec 15 (No matriculation Nov 24) Hours: 10:00am–11:30am or 1:00pm–2:30pm 10 sessions; $220 Through experimentation with various materials and methods, children will develop their art-making skills and explore personal areas of creative interest. A variety of materials and techniques will be explored, including watercolor, tempera, mixed media, soil and cray-pas, as well as methods in printmaking. Discovering variegated artists and their work will moreover be a part of this course.                                          NOTE: All materials are included in the undertow tuition. AEC-1027/ Painting and Drawing (Grades 5 and 6) Painting and Drawing AEC-1027-A • Grades 5 and 6 Sun., Sep. 23–Dec. 2 (No matriculation Nov 25) Hours: 10:00am–12:00pm 10 sessions; $220 Students will develop their drawing and painting skills using uncontrived observation and imagination. Line, color, shape, perspective and sonnet will all be explored. Mediums include pencil, charcoal, watercolor and tempera paint.Accentwill be placed on finding and developing a personal style.  NOTE: All materials are included in the undertow tuition. AEC/1047/Painting, Drawing (Grades 7th-9th) Painting and Drawing AEC-1047-A • Grades 7 through 9 Sun., Sep. 23–Dec. 2 (No matriculation Nov 25) Hours: 10:00am–12:00pm 10 sessions; $220 In this class, accent will be placed on developing vital drawing and painting skills and techniques as well as expanding each student’s visual vocabulary. A variety of media will be used, including drawing pencils, pastels, charcoal, acrylic, pen-and-ink and watercolors. Students will learn the tools and techniques for creating from uncontrived observation as well as from their imagination.  NOTE: All materials are included in the undertow tuition. AEC/1023-A/Portfolio Preparation (Grades 7 and 8) - Cancelled Fri., Sep. 21-Nov.30 (No matriculation Nov. 23) Hours: 4:00pm-6:00pm 10 sessions; $260 Designed for students who plan to wield to specialized art upper schools, this undertow will provide instruction in creative techniques and portfolio preparation.  Students will expand their knowledge of art ideas and techniques while exploring a variety of materials, including charcoal, pencil, cray-pas, watercolor, pen and in and tempera paints.  Note:  All materials are included in the undertow tuition. Program Policies Children are expected to be punctual each day and will not be admitted into a matriculation if they victorious late. All children grades K-6 must be accompanied by an sultana to and from each class. Those enrolling in AEC – 1014, Grades K Through 2, must be five years or older.    Note: Space is limited and registration takes place on a first-come, first-serve basis.                                                              How to Register SVA's art classes for young people in grades K-9 enrich a child's knowledge of art while exploring a wide variety of materials.  Classes maintian a teacher-student ratio of one to eight and are taught by SVA art educators and teaching assistants who are moreover professional artists.
